If you’ve got a flair for the performing arts, then VFV’s teaching children fine arts project is just be the volunteer project you’re looking for.
You probably have seen YouTube videos of Filipino street children break dancing, Filipino prison inmates dancing to Michael Jacksons’ Thriller, and our local flight attendants dancing to Lady Gaga. So you know that Filipinos love to dance!
If you stroll through our neighbourhood, you’ll probably see children, outside their homes, practising the latest dance steps. They’re good at it and thoroughly enjoy themselves.
Dancing is an excellent way of helping disadvantaged children to express themselves, to gain self-confidence, and to learn social skills. It also gives the children something fun and wholesome to do.
There are, however, few opportunities for disadvantaged children to participate in dance classes. Fortunately, many accomplished and enthused individuals have volunteered during the past few years.
WHY WE NEED YOU
Our children are especially interested in urban, ballet and traditional dance, but cannot afford private lessons. They have cherished what has been provided and look forward to more.
If you have a passion for dance and love working with children, this placement is for you. In addition to teaching dance, your duties will include mentoring the children you work with, and networking with VFV program coordinators.
