Our village Alchauna is located in Nainital district of Northern Indian state Uttrakhand in the Himalayas. River Kalsa flows along village and a source of livelihood as farmers and community members dependent on the river for farming. Agriculture and dairy farming are main occupations of the region. Uttrakhand borders Tibet to the north, Nepal to the east; and the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh to the south. Uttrakhand is often referred to as the Devbhumi (“Land of the Gods”) due to many Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. During the medieval period, the region was consolidated under the Kumaon Kingdom and Garhwal Kingdom. In the 19th century, most of modern Uttrakhand was ceded to the British as part of the Treaty.
Uttrakhand has a diversity of flora and fauna. It has a forest area of 70% of the total area of the state. Uttrakhand is home to rare species of plants and animals, many of which are protected by sanctuaries and reserves. The Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park of India is located at Ramnagar in Nainital District and only 3 hours drive from our village. We have homestays for guests visiting us.
